Spinach Intolerance Information

When a person has a spinach intolerance, he or she will experience negative symptoms after consuming spinach. These symptoms will be delayed from when the person consumes the offending food. In many cases, the delay can be several hours however, in some cases, the delay can be up to a day or even longer.

Spinach intolerances are different from spinach allergies. With a food allergy, such as a spinach allergy, the symptoms are usually felt shortly after consuming the food that a person is allergic to. The delay that is present with a food intolerance is not usually seen with food allergies. In addition, food allergy symptoms can be quite severe and in some cases even potentially fatal. Immune food intolerance symptoms are incredibly unique to each person and thus it is difficult to list common symptoms. With an immune intolerance a person will feel unwell, but how he or she will respond to the food greatly depends on the individual.

With a digestive spinach intolerance, one of the most common symptoms is stomach bloating and stomach pain. These symptoms usually appear several hours after eating spinach but, in some cases, the spinach intolerance symptoms can be delayed by up to a day or more.

Other spinach intolerance symptoms include nausea, diarrhea, vomiting, cramping and other issues.

Each person will experience a spinach intolerance in an individual way. The delay between eating spinach and experiencing negative symptoms, the type of symptoms experienced and the severity of the symptoms will all vary depending on the person.

Spinach Intolerance Treatment

A person who has a spinach intolerance can stop experiencing symptoms by removing spinach from his or her diet. This does not have to be a permanent change in most cases. After a period of time, a person with a spinach intolerance will be able to add spinach back into his or her diet. This should be done under the advice of a medical professional.

There are a number of health benefits to eating spinach, so a person who has a spinach intolerance will want to ensure that he or she is aware of what may be lacking from his or her diet if spinach is removed. Spinach contains a large amount of dietary fiber which aids in digestion and helps maintain low blood sugar. It also contains powerful antioxidants as well as vitamin C, vitamin E, beta-carotene, manganese, zinc and a number of other nutrients. Spinach is one of the most nutrient-dense foods available, so it is important that people who do not each spinach find alternate sources of the nutrients that are found in spinach.
