Kefir is a fermented milk drink that is made with kefir grains. Some people who have a lactose intolerance are able to tolerate kefir without issue. However, certain people experience negative symptoms after consuming kefir. These symptoms, like all food intolerance symptoms, are delayed. They usually appear several hours after consuming the offending food. However, in some people, the delay between consuming kefir and experiencing the negative kefir intolerance symptoms can be up to a day or longer. This delay differs between individuals.

It depends a great deal on the individual.

In addition, some people who have a kefir intolerance may be able to drink a small amount of kefir without issue while others will experience negative kefir intolerance issues after consuming even a small amount. A kefir intolerance, much like all food intolerances, depends greatly on the individual. Different people will experience a kefir intolerance in different ways.

Digestive Kefir Intolerance Symptoms

Food intolerances can either be digestive food intolerances or immune food intolerances. In the case of an immune food intolerance, a person’s body will respond to consuming the offending food with an immune response. These responses are highly individual and are very different in different people.

A digestive food intolerance will also cause different symptoms in different people. However, there are some kefir intolerance symptoms that are common between many different people who have a kefir intolerance.

Common digestive kefir intolerance symptoms include stomach pain, bloating, cramping, vomiting, diarrhea, excessive gas and other similar issues. Each person who has a kefir intolerance will not experience all of these symptoms. In addition, certain people will experience a longer delay between eating the offending food and feeling unwell. The duration of the symptoms will also vary between different people.

Kefir Intolerance Treatment

A person with a kefir intolerance can stop experiencing kefir intolerance symptoms by removing kefir from his or her diet. For many people, this does not need to be a permanent change. Many people will be able to return to drinking kefir at a later period without experiencing symptoms. You should check with a medical professional before bringing kefir back into your diet to ensure that symptoms do not return.

Kefir is a very nutritious drink. It contains a wide variety of nutrients and minerals. If you are not able to consume kefir due to a kefir intolerance, you should ensure that you receive these nutrients and minerals from other sources.
