Keep Calories in Mind with Fall Drinks

Posted on Sep 09, 2014 0 comments

Fall is almost here, school is back in session and pumpkin spice everything is filling the shelves. However, it’s important to note that while many fall-themed drinks (such as lattes, coffee drinks and other beverages) are often extremely tasty, a lot of them are also very high in calories. Many people don`t think about the calories in the drinks they consume, but these calories can quickly add up if you`re not careful!

Drinks like flavoured lattes and hot chocolates often contain a great deal of sugar, which isn’t good for your health. The syrups that give many of these drinks their flavouring is filled with sugar, making the drinks incredibly sweet. This point becomes especially true if you add things like whip cream to your drink. In fact, a pumpkin spice latte can contain between 25 and 62g of sugar, depending on the size and whether or not you add whipped cream. That`s a lot!

Many fall specialty beverages are also very high in calories. For example, a typical pumpkin spice latte from a coffee shop can have between 300 and 400 calories. You`ll need to keep this in mind when ordering.

As it does this, it helps stool and harmful carcinogens move through your digestive tract. But that`s not all it does. Fibre has a number of benefits and it`s important for overall health.

Do you get enough fibre in your diet? Fibre is important for a number of reasons. Studies show that those who consume more fibre are much less likely to be obese. This is important since obesity is a risk factor for heart disease, stroke and many other illnesses. But that isn`t the only reason that fibre is important.

There are two types of fibre: soluble fibre and insoluble fibre. Soluble fibre dissolves in water while insoluble fibre does not. Soluble fibre is important because it helps lower blood cholesterol and control blood sugar levels. Insoluble fibre helps you feel fuller and it also promotes bowel regularity. Both types are important in a healthy diet.

So how can you get more fibre in your diet? The good news is that it’s easy. Fibre is found in a number of foods.
